I was picked.........

....to be a room mom in Cubby's class!!! I am really super, duper excited. I've never been a room mom...I am one of those types that just likes to come up with the craft idea and help out a bit...I don't like to do all of the coordinating stuff and be in charge. My older two are in 7th and 8th grade...so I'm a bit out of touch of what goes on the in the younger grades these days. Well, the other day I found out there is a new policy at the school...AB.SO.LUTELY NOOOOOO sugar!!!!!!!!! That's right....no cupcakes. no cookies. no ice cream sundae bar. no candy. no treats. What kind of fun can that be???? I walked around feeling dejected for a day or two. My first big gig is the Halloween party, and how do you do that with no fun junk food???? I'm researching things and brainstorming...so if any of you out there have any SUPER HEALTHY party snack ideas, please let me know. In the meantime look what I picked up at my Goodwill yesterday!!!!! 21 pumpkins!!! There were 5 shelves of them sitting there, brand new from Target. I've found out my local Target donates tons of clearance stuff that doesn't sell. So of course the treatgirl grabbed enough for the class...I'm not quite sure what to do with them yet....seeing as though there won't be any treats to bring home :( I'm thinking we can do some type of toss game...and then as a small craft they can decorate the handles with ribbons and make a name tag to dangle....oh...and if you have any fun party ideas let me know...there is to be four stations the kiddos rotate through. Wish me luck!!!

No sugar!!! What's the fun in that? Don't those school officials know the phrase "everything in moderation"? They just took all the fun out of a Halloween party. Good luck!

Popping over from Sassy Studios:

Well for healthy snacks ~

carrot & celery broomsticks (cut into the ends several times leaving it attached to the top... soak in ice water overnight. They should curl up so the bottoms looked flared out like brooms)

fruit on a skewer with spider rings on them

pretzels with fruit dip

bread stick bones with tomatoe sauce dip

That's all I can think of right now.

Great find at the thrift store!! Lucky you! I'd be checking back often!! I long for a Target here! They have so many cute unique things... last fall we picked up Pumpkin Spice Hershey kisses. Nothing like that up here in Canada.

Wow, looks like Jerri-Lea has your back where creative snacks are concerned!!!

In Texas we have the same rule with these exceptions:
1. Chocolate can be served because it is a milk product.
2. One time per year the rules are dropped. You can decide which party you want to do this for.

You might want to check to see if this is the situation in your state, also.

Love your blog!!!

You can fill clear plastic gloves with popcorn for witch hands or make breadstick "bones" (I think I saw this on epicurious.com) and last year I used mozzerella cheese sticks and drew on a ghost face and stood them in a plastic pumpkin.

or mozzarella sticks work well too since I can't spell!

I have a great-easy, cheap and VERY cute craft. I am actually going to post it on my blog tonight with my favorites from the Celebrate the Holidays party. It's so cute you will be proud to hang it on your door.

It has been a while since I've been on your blog! The kids wanted me to go through your blogs and find more fun stuff and goodies to make! They sat on each side of me fighting to get closer to the computer screen to check things out! Let me know what you decide to do for Cubby's Halloween party at school. I'm also a room mom for Katies class and have to come up with some more ideas! I'll share if I come up with a "non-sugar" idea...wow..whats with that!@#$
